About Sara

Hey there! My name is Sara and I am a 23 year old senior at the university of North Georgia. I am dual majoring in Biology and Chemistry. Currently I am doing my undergrad research on bat conservation and have a few published projects in scientific journals.

Along with my research I also teach Chemistry to non-science majors on a college level in a lecture and lab setting as well as organic chemistry to major students. I know it’s hard for some people. Understanding science can be like learning a new language but I know everyone has the capability. We all learn differently and it’s about finding the correct balance for you.

Before UNG I attended University of West Georgia and was in the UTeach program. The program gave me the opportunity to teach 4th and 6th grade science, both of which I loved.

My hope is to continue to grad school and eventually get my Ph.D in conservation genetics. I love science and have always enjoyed empowering young women in the field that we can be under represented in.

I work full time at Lawrenceville Suwanee animal hospital and have been in the veterinary medicine field for about 5 years. Animals have always been a huge passion of mine and I love what I do. However, the idea of being able to help someone conquer science and be proud of themselves is truly unsurpassable.

I am currently in school and having been to two different colleges and sitting through many different styles of lecture I feel I have a better understanding of different ways to approach each of my main subjects. I have taught 4th and 6th grade science as well as teaching at the college level. Currently I am doing research with bat conservation and find my work very enjoyable.

About the lesson

Everyone has a different way of learning. I think that is the biggest problem a lot of students have. Once you understand the way you learn best everything starts to become easier to comprehend. Science can be like learning a new language but once you start to grasp concepts it really is fun to start to break down subjects and find things you want to know more about.
