About Matthew

As a former teacher. I love helping students understand concepts they find challenging and helping them develop the tools they need for success.

I have a teaching certificate in Biology and Chemistry. I have a Master's in Education and a Master's in Chemistry. I have over 6 years of teaching experience. During that time I taught Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science and Physics.

About the lesson

First I would want to understand your goals for tutoring. Are you looking to get help with a specific class? Prepare for a particular exam? Develop new skills or get remedial help?

We would have an initial consultation to talk about your goals as well as your strengths and areas for growth. I will also ask you about your preferred learning styles and how I can best meet your needs and expectations.

Finally, we will develop a schedule and plan to meet your goals and timeline.

As a former public school educator, I know how to work well with all students. I have the skills to work with students who need accommodations due to learning differences. I have experience with reluctant learners and I also know how to challenge students who need a little bit more rigor.

Look for a tutor who can help teach you how to learn through their sessions and not just someone to help you do your homework. You get more bang for your buck if you can learn the skills and frameworks that will help you be successful beyond your sessions.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Determine what you hope to achieve with your tutor. Consider what skills you might want to work on in addition to the specific subject you want help with. Be prepared to tell your tutor about times when you felt very successful learning and times when you did not.

Details

I charge 40 dollars per hour for live sessions and 30 dollars per hour for any activities and preparations needed outside of a live session.

I will record our live sessions and send them to you for a flat rate of 20 dollars per session. Additional live session participants will be billed at an additional 10 per hour per person.
