About Tea

Hi there!

My name is Téa and I am a first year biology teacher (Class B-license and certificate) living and working in New York City. I am looking to share the amazing nature of science with students who struggle to visualize the complex concepts taught in school. I have a deep love and passion for the sciences and am hopeful that I can spark a similar passion in your child! Virtual learning is hard on everyone, but with a shift in thinking style and conceptual understanding, I am confident that we can still open up the amazing scientific world (academically and otherwise) in an accessible and fun way. Additionally, I have experience with Regents, ACT, and AP exam prep. I am goal oriented, up-beat, and flexible.

I have experience with many science disciplines and graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in biology and environmental science from Tufts University. There, I was a teaching assistant for multiple biology and environmental science classes and worked hands on in a genetics lab and in the Tufts Office of Sustainability for over two years each. Currently, I work with 11th graders, a number of which have learning disabilities and IEPs. I am experienced making and using accommodations and scaffolding to better serve your child's individual needs. Additionally, I am currently getting my Master's degree in Teaching at Relay Graduate School of Education here in Manhattan.

I am working my dream job. Everyday I am lucky enough to talk about what I am passionate about to students from every background. I love introducing new ideas that answer questions about the world and helping students exceed in their academics, but my favorite part of teaching is relationship building. By getting to know my students better, I am able to specifically design lessons to better teach to MY students rather than the illusive "standard student" (which, in my opinion, doesn't exist).

I have a 9 year old brother, so in many ways my teaching career began when I became an older sister to a curious little boy. 

Professionally, I got started teaching through Teach for America in 2020, where I now work at a TFA partner school in the South Bronx. 



-Current 11th grade biology teacher at Urban Dove Team Charter School II (Bronx).

-Bachelor's degree in Biology and Environmental Science from Tufts University (cum laude).

-Genetics lab experience studying extended CAG-repeats and DNA fragility and repair mechanisms in a collaborative research cluster for two years.

-University of Maryland Medical Center COVID-19 field hospital support services staff.

-Tufts University Office of Sustainability intern (2 years).

-National Student Leadership Conference Head Team Advisor for the Marine Biology program. 

-First year master's student at Relay Graduate School of Education.

I believe that there are two ways to make science concepts sticky-- grounding the idea in something relevant or in something cool. To best shape discussions around what is "relevant" or "cool" to your child, I would start by getting to know them a little bit. What do they like and dislike about science? What kind of learner are they? What are their interersts? 

After that, I would ask what they are struggling with and perform a no-pressure diagnostic assessment to know the level of background knowledge your child has solidified, partially understood, and where we need to focus the most time. 

Finally, we get to work, addressing their specific needs in a way I will personally tailor to best fit their style, interest, curriculum requirements, and personality. 



I have worked with College and High School students. I have taught a range of students, from those in Advanced Placement courses to students with Learning disabilities who recieve special education services and English Language Learners.

I charge $15 for a half hour session or $25 for a full hour session.

You can also bundle and save if you plan to book multiple sessions at once. I charge $100 for 5 1-hour sessions (save $25!) and $65 for 5 30-minute sessions (save $10). 

I am more than happy to work with your schedule and provide customized pay structures based on your needs and availability.
