About Joshua

I am a 3rd year genetics student attending Iowa state university where I participate in numerous labs. When explaining the material at hand I can not only deliver an explanation but relate that to real life everyday experiences. it isn't about just learning the material but being excited about the topics and ambitious, not fearsome or nervios, of topics related to science. My job as a tutor is to have them grow as a scientific intelectual and begin to question the biological and chemical applications of the life around them while they learn the material they need.

I began as a tutor in high school and fell in love with the ability to utilize what I have learned to have become successful and give my methods to others aspiring to reach their goals.

I teach 3 classes at my college and provide a fun and inclusive enviornment for my students. I have also been a private tutor for many years for students of the high school and middle school levels.

At first it is crucial to understand who my student is in they way they think and process material given to them. No mater how difficult they think it might be they don't have to go at it alone. It becomes a team effort to tackle the material of the course when I am paired up to tutor your children. once I know my student I am better able to aid him or her to future success in providing them the necessary tools to learn now and in the future.

I have worked with middle schoolers up to college seniors (last year of college). I have also worked along side students with mental illnesses such as ADHD and autism.

If you don't think I am suited or well equipped to tutor your child please find an individual who won't just drill the student in the material he already learned. Find someone who can go above and beyond and prepare him or her for what's to come. I have found that a student on material can be effective for short term or not at all. This becomes rather disadvantageous for the student long term.

In one of my classes I was in charge of demonstrating how students can alalyze a genome and understand how that relates to protein production and function. I had a student that absolutely hated his lab because he did not understand the basics involved in the work he was conducting. Being able to show him how his research project related to the work I was showing him and providing him with external material he was able to complete his research and obtain a publication.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
No question is a bad question if you have a question on the material, whatever it may be, ask it. This allows the student to begin to question what they are learning and provide bridges in their material that will alow them to conceptually understand the coursework at a deeper level. They may also not know their areas of struggle which is where I come in. Part of my job as a tutor is to aid the student realize their weaknesses and creatively come up with solutions to guide them through the process of education.
