About Isabella

When I was studying for my doctorate of physical therapy, I took a lot of science classes that happened to come easy to me, but only because I was so invested in the material. I started to notice people coming to me and asking for help with the homework or to prepare for exams and before I knew it, I had a small group of 8-12 people with me every Friday or Saturday that I was teaching. I never viewed myself as a teacher before and realized how empowering of a feeling it can be to finally help someone who has been struggling to understans a concept for weeks. I love watching the light bulb go off inside peoples heads! I have since stopped tutoring as I graduated and began a full time job, but now that I am settled into my job, I would love to begin tutoring again.

I began as a peer tutor at Springfield College in Massachusetts. Soon after, I became a certified peer tutor through the college program and began tutoring English topics as well.

I was a certified peer tutor for undergraduate sciences (biology, anatomy, and first year neuroanatomt) at Springfield College. Additionally, I have my Doctorate of Physical Therapy.

About the lesson

My process is to just dive into the material. If the student needs to go back to the basics, we will do that so they can build off that knowledge. I want to hear what the student needs and start there!

I have worked with high school and undergraduate college aged students.

Find a teacher who shares the same values and philosophy for learning. It is a process, not a one-stop shop. Additionally, a teacher does not have to have an Ivy League degree to be knowledgeable about what they teach.

Unfortunately I have not been a tutor in around a year and a half due to studying for my board exam and obtaining a full time job. Although I am not an actual teacher, I do find myself educating patients every day as a physical therapist. Recently I was working with a patient who was so deconditioned after having COVID, that he could not walk. I was able to developmentally teach this patient to be able to walk again as you would teach a newborn to walk.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should think about what they struggle with and most importantly WHY they think they are struggling with the certain topic. If a student can tell me why they think they can't grasp a certain topic, it will help me dive deeper into the problem and solve it with them.
