About Samantha

My name is Samantha, I have a strong background in biology and chemistry, and proficient knowledge in other pre-medicine related courses.

You'll find my qualifications listed here:

- B.S in Biochemistry, focused on pre-medicine & basic certifications in psychology and computational biology.

-Current Chemistry Ph.D. student with a dual role as a student and graduate teaching assistant.

-Teaching Certification: "Graduate Teaching Assistant Workshop & Classroom Teaching"

-Experience teaching two sections of undergraduate-level chemistry labs. During each lab, I'd teach a short lecture, give a quiz, provide help on homework and conducting experiments, ensure the labs remained safe, and I had lots of grading!

My experience as a TA has been the highlight of my academic career thus far! I find such joy in sharing my love for science and learning with my students. As an instructor, I aim to empower students with the necessary knowledge and tools by providing an encouraging and collaborative environment!

I was thrilled my students felt comfortable enough to ask me and each other for assistance when they needed Establishing such an interactive environment, helped the students learn and made our 3-hour lab fly by!

Bachelors in Premed Biochemistry, current Chemistry Ph.D. student.

TA for College General Chemistry 1 labs.

Learning can be fun, if you eliminate the unconscious pressure you feel to out-compete your peers (or yourself). I want to show you that getting the" wrong answer" is not a bad thing at all! In my 5+ years in academic research, some of the "wrong answers" I've gotten turned out to be amazing discoveries. Allowing yourself to be wrong sometimes, forces you to think outside the box, and strengthens your problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

High school-graduate level students.

Primarily in tutoring for Biochemistry and Chemistry.

Keep an open mind and be patient with yourself and your tutor. Mistakes WILL happen, learn to embrace them and use them to better yourself for the next time.

For biochemistry courses two critical things for success: STRUCTURE --> FUNCTION and KNOW YOUR AMINO ACIDS (structure and properties).

Some helpful advice for college-level stem courses: get comfortable reading scientific publications and interpreting figures/graphs/tables. Don't just memorize facts, take it to the next step and be able to apply

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Identify specific topics you want to focus on so you can get the most time out of your session. But if you find yourself stuck, look at your course material (E.G. Syllabus/textbook/professor/peers). This will help make sure you're addressing the correct topics

Alternatively, the first session could be used to work with your tutor to create a study plan and establish the goals you want to achieve. But again, make sure you have a general idea of your course material and what you hope to accomplish.
