About Oliver

I have played chess since 8 years old and started clubs in high school and after.

I have a Ph.D in education so I employ the best practices. I also design software and manual learning aids.

I have a first lesson that is a primer and an assessment. Usually I add some new ideas for learners that feel they know enough to show there is always new ideas to learn.

I have a bachelor's in computer science a masters in adult education and a Ph.D in education. I have taught grade school through Ph.D dissertation level learners.

In terms of chess, i.learnt as a child, started a club in high school and an adult club, playing at all levels as amateur and teach after school chess programs.

About the lesson

I usually assess each learner's current knowledge and interest. I then find simple ways to motivate learners employing ideas they already have to attach and improve upon. My experience provides some basic tenets that I repeat to form good lifelong learning habits.

I've worked with all ages of students from preschool ages through adults. I have taught multiples schools, grade schools, middle schools and high school after school chess programs for many years.

Recently I taught my grandchild who absorbed lessons and was so motivated he joined his middle school chess club and after a start of losing to the longer players he surpassed them all by beating each player in the club.
