I tend to get to know more about my students when we first meet. I would like to know what are their hobbies, what do they dislike, what are their thought about school and schoolwork, and etc. Every Student is different, and getting to know them better helps me design my approach to them for tutoring.
I also realize getting to know them personally helps me come up with examples, analogies that they are familiar with and hence facilitate them to understand the concepts better.
