About Phillip
I'm a Virginia Tech student who knows how to view material from the many perspectives beginners can have.
Some of those I've taught have been uncertain about whether programming is something they want to do / are capable of, and I really enjoy seeing them years later, having continued pursuing it in part thanks to my tutoring.
When I was part of a robotics team, I was suddenly thrust about 5-10 people with incredibly varied experience, all looking to join the programming sub-team.
I am a Computer Science student at Virginia Tech, graduating this Fall, after 3.5 years.
I have been the Assistant Programming Lead for a First Robotics Competition team, where I focused on teaching new team members, and developing software for the robot. Throughout that year I helped fellow students (some with zero programming experience) learn to program a robot using modern, professional tools.

I first asses where they are and what kind of experience they have with programming, and then determine where they want to go.
It's very important to understand how someone has previously been taught computer science, and how they worked (or failed) for them.
I entirely with high school students, however they have varied greatly, from no experience to having more experience than some college students.
Get someone who will teach you to keep in mind both the larger goal of the program, and the details of the functions you are in the middle of writing.
They should be able to explain big ideas to keep in mind during programming, while cementing them with concrete examples.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
1. What is my end goal?
2. How much effort am I looking to put in, both during and between sessions?
3. How formal / informal do I want sessions to be?
