About Kwame

I have a love for both the logical and the creative and have come to see where the two intersect. I have been a professional software engineer for a little over four years after finishing my college education at the University of Virginia, and have been playing the guitar for almost 13 years. My logical approach to things in life has helped me learn and grow in both areas, as they happen to be a lot more similar than folks think. Building a song, or an arrangement of a song, is a lot like building a piece of software or code. Both have foundational pieces/formulas, but also a lot of space for creativity in the approach.

What I enjoy about teaching both these things is that I learn something new myself in the process. I'm looking not only to disseminate knowledge but also to empower those I teach to develop an approach they can call their own and use. I love the process of learning and seeing others grasp a new, formerly foreign, concept or idea.

I enjoy working through a problem end-to-end, reaching a solution, and then refining that solution. This process relates a lot to life, and how we're continually growing and evolving as people.

B.S. in Computer Science

I have tutored students one-on-one in both a regimented and ad-hoc manner in the following subjects:

● Guitar playing

● Bash Scripting

● Javascript Programming

● Robotic Process Automation Programming

● Java Framework Spring Boot

These sessions have taken place both in-person and on zoom. The lessons have entailed both formal instruction and assistance with projects and assignments.

I have also recently begun mentoring students that are going through a self-paced coding boot camp called Springboard. My role entails meeting with students once a week on zoom, offering advice, answering questions, and providing feedback on the work that they complete as they progress through the course.
