About Stephen
I am a professional software engineer. I studied computer science and information systems and work professionally in healthcare reimbursement.
I am, first and foremost, a problem solver. Programming is nothing more than finding a solution to a problem and every day is a different set of problems to solve. I pride myself in finding the most optimal solutions without overcomplication.
I work professionally as a software engineer on the .NET stack in C# and MSSQL databases. I was trained academically on C, C++, Python, Java, and web technologies (Javascript, ASP.NET). I have experience in Oracle, MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, and MS SQL Server database platforms.

I don't teach programming languages, but concepts that apply to general programming. I'll evaluate a student's level of experience in whatever language they feel comfortable with and then adapt to build on that experience.
I have worked with middle and high school students. During my college studies I had classmates that would routinely copy my code assignments because of how concise and accurate my results were, and I would routinely assist in helping them understand why my solution took a different yet more efficient approach than theirs.
Computer science traditionally can become very complex very quickly, but I don't believe it has to be. I believe that building up a mastery of the concepts of computer science and programming is more beneficial than the traditional approach of starting with language X because it's easier to understand.
