About Lisa

We teach proper technique to prepare students for future dance, as well as poise and confidence. But we also have fun!

We maintain a very positive, kid friendly environment. We believe that the most important thing is that it is a positive and self esteem building experience for all our students, regardless of their level of ability.

I have always loved dance and teaching. If it hadn't been for dance, I'm sure I would have been a teacher of something else. I love looking for and finding a way to explain or demonstrate something that has otherwise eluded a student that brings about that "aha" moment. Most importantly though, children and young people are my favorite people in the world. I find something unique and wonderful in each of them. I love watching them learn and discover things about themselves as they grow and am very happy to be a part of their experience.

My mother was a dancer and took me to classes with a friend of hers when I was 5. When I was 10 she started teaching as well and when I was 12 I began student teaching for both she and my teacher.

I have been dancing since I was 5 and started student teaching at the age of 12. I was mostly Cecchetti trained but have trained with teachers of other methods as well.

About the lesson

With all students we begin with demonstration and explanation. For younger ones what they learn is reinforced through song and dance. When they are older, it becomes more individualized. Until they are comfortable with me and the class, I will offer corrections to the group, rather than make a new student uncomfortable. Once I have assessed their abilities and feel that they won't be embarrassed by it, I will make some corrections individually through explanation or gentle physical correction

For little ones I'd say make sure that it's fun but somewhat structured so they are learning something. For older students, proper technique is important. For all students make sure that it is a positive and self esteem building situation. Regardless of your ability or level of desire, you should be developing a love and appreciation for dance as well as gaining confidence and pride in your accomplishments.
