About Carmen

Carmen Casillas is a 19 year old dancer, choreographer, and teacher who is located in Santa Monica, California. She is currently in preparation of obtaining her Bachelor's Degree in dance at UCLA. She has been dancing for the past 6 years in various styles such as ballet, jazz, contemporary, and hip hop. However, over the past two years, she has transitioned to focus on more commercial styles such as hip hop and jazz-funk. During her time in high school, she has been teaching for 2 years to 2 of her schools dance teams, where she teaches and trains students to express themselves through dance and further improve their dancing and artistry skills. She has also been a member of her dance company, On The Edge Youth Dance Ensemble for 5 years, and has been in the Samohi Dance Department for 3 years. Aside from that Carmen has trained under the Cameron Lee Mentorship and has learned from choreographer's such as Cameron Lee, EJ Hoffman, Tré Kuchar, Dexter Carr, and Khamari Bendolph. In 2019, Carmen was awarded the Youth Leadership In the Arts Award by the city of Santa Monica by her outstanding work she has done to provide a safe environment for students to be themselves and express themselves through movement. Aside from that, Carmen loves to listen to music, learn about other cultures, and make others happy.

I provide a safe space for all of my students to grow artistically. In my class, there are no judgements or expectations, only love!

I have been a company member of my dance company, On The Edge Youth Dance Ensemble for 5 years, and I have been training in various styles such as ballet, jazz, modern, contemporary, and hip hop. I have been teaching for 2 years to my school’s dance teams, where I teach and train students to express themselves through dance and further improve their dancing and artistry skills. I have also trained under the prestigious Cameron Lee Mentorship Program and am currently in the process of obtaining my Bachelor's Degree in dance from UCLA.

About the lesson

I always welcome everyone into my dance classes. No matter if you have been dancing for your whole life or if you have never danced at all, anyone is welcome to take my class and express themselves through movement.
