About Michelle

I teach technique. How to use each medium correctly and the basic knowledge of art elements (value, line, shape, color, texture,form, and space) and principals of design (balance, contrast, movement,emphasis, pattern and unity). Once the concepts and techniques are applied and understood the student can then create anything they desire.

Art is therapy. I love drawing, painting and creating my own works. I love sharing my knowledge with others and seeing what they come up with for themselves.

I started teaching when homeschooling my 2 girls in Louisiana. I saw a need for other homeschool students to get their required extra curricular classes for the Louisiana Educational state requirement and some went on to college to pursue a career in the arts. I helped them put together a portfolio that made them stand out above the rest.

I have a degree in fine art and graphic design. I have been a graphic designer for over 20 years.

About the lesson

I show them the basic techniques and buld upon that.

I worked with middle school and highschool students along with adults. Some had no art experience others just needed refresher courses.

Check their work and if you are unhappy with how you are being taaught or if you don't understand something, speak up or find a new teacher. Art is subjective and not everyone has the same method. You must be comfortable with your instructors methods and be able to communicate with them. Remember you are paying them, if you are not getting the instruction you need, find someone else.

I just taught a highschool junior how to draw a portrait in one hour. The look on her face when she realized how easy it was to create a base and go forward, gave her the confidence to to try other more difficult drawings of people.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Think about what it is you want to learn. Is it drawing? painting with acrylics but not realistic paintings? Is it more crafty? Do you want to go into a field where art and design are required? Establinshing your wants and needs will help the instructor design a program for you.
