About Marissa
I believe in having fun while learning. No matter how old you are, stress and anxiety do not have to be a factor in learning and growth. Learning something new or can be challenging and can feel very intimidating and overwhelming. I totally understand that. My job is to keep you engaged in the material.
I tutoring children ages 6-11 in music theory, and I tutored English to children in grades 4-8. I have written articles for clients on many subjects, including law, entertainment, finance and international politics.

With younger students, I introduce myself and welcome them to a session with me. I ask them what they like and dislike about the subject we are working on, and why. I assure them that I will give them the necessary tools to do well in their subjects, and I am with them every step of the way to make sure they do well. I do administer tests on a weekly basis to make sure the student to retaining the material we are covering. Review is also very heavy with me. I need to know that the student "gets it" before moving forward.
With adult students, I am a little more structured, yet more relaxed also. Please, let me explain! I introduce myself, but I then invite them to tell me about themselves. Why are they looking for tutoring services? What are they trying to accomplish? There must be a mutual respect between us. I never want an adult learner to feel "less than". None of us are good at everything! However, this is my strength, and I wish to share it with anyone who is willing to learn and grow.
