About Hodi

Hi!

My name is Hodi and I'm a college student in Boston! I've had a passion for writing, reading, American literature, and AP style writing since I was in high school. I am a writing tutor at my university's writing center, where I meet weekly with undergraduate and graduate students with English as their first or second (or maybe third!) language to help them in their brainstorming and writing process.

I love meeting students where they are at - be that at the reading comprehension level, the brainstorming stage, the writing stage, or the editing and proofreading stage. I believe everyone has the ability to be a great writer, it only takes practice and dedication!

I love watching students grow in their passion for writing as they learn to overcome the frustrating obstacles upper level writing can often present. I enjoy watching how each student uniquely presents themselves and their voice through their writing, and am continuously impressed by students' dedication to enhancing their relationship with the writing process.

I went to a college prepatory private high school in San Francisco where I was well trained in AP, argumentative, and rhetorical and literay analysis style essays. Courses I took included AP American Language and AP Literature.

In college I was recommended to work for the university's writing center, where I was professionally trained in one on one tutoring for native English speakers and ESL students. I have been working in the writing center for a year. I have taken college writing intensive courses in the religion and film departments as well as in the university's writing program.

About the lesson

My typical process for working with a new student is getting to know the student first. To help a student hone their writer's voice, you have to know them as a person first! Once we're well acquianted, I ask students to tell me about the class their assignment is in and what they think the most important part of their writing/reading assignment is. Slowly, we work our way up to getting words on the page, at a pace that fits the students needs.
