About Amanda

I received my Bachelor's in English from Bridgewater State University in 2016, graduating Magna Cum Laude with Departmental Honors; I also completed and defended an Honors Thesis and saw my poetry published in BSU's creative journal. I then went on to receive my Master's of Arts in English Literature from Boston College in 2019. During my time at BC, I served as a writing tutor for undergraduate and graduate students via the university's Learning Center, and I was granted a Teaching Fellowship in my second year, during which time I was mentored by First-Year Writing faculty members and gained invaluable pedagogical training and classroom experience. Since graduating, I have been part-time faculty of BC's English department, where I still teach freshman writing and literature courses. My approach in the classroom always begins with relationship-building, and that same approach translates to my tutoring style. Listening to the concerns and goals of my students will always be the primary blueprint for how I map the best path towards reaching those objectives.

Writing has always been a part of my life, from scrawling long-winded stories about my imaginary friends as a youngster to using the blank page as an outlet in my teens, and finally earning a graduate degree in English in my early 20s. Sharing this passion has become the impetus for my approach to teaching writing of all genres and forms, and while I realize that not everyone will develop a love affair with the proverbial pen and page, I also remain certain that it's possible for everyone to appreciate the lasting value in communicating clearly, coherently, and with confidence. Achieving those "three C's" is what propels my approach to anyone seeking refinement and cultivation. I have been teaching college-level writing for the last four years, and with each semester, what I find to be most rewarding is the process of discovery that unfolds with each student, both on and off the page. Be it helping students find their distinctive voice in a creative piece or nudging them past their own comfort zones in analytical or research-driven projects, witnessing the exploration of new intellectual and emotional latitudes through writing is what makes this job endlessly enriching.
