About Casey

I am a writing major in the honors program in my senior year at Emerson college, and was a part of the IB program in high school, an immersive program equivalent to taking all AP classes. I have been working with kids for as long as I can remember, as a camp counselor as well as a tutor. I am actually looking to find ways to combine my passions of writing and working with kids as my summer job in a leadership role at a sleepaway summer camp fell through as a result of covid-19. I would be thrilled at the chance to help guide your child as they tackle college essays, homework, creative writing endeavors, or anything in between.

Writing is as much a team sport as it is an individual one, and I love talking through ideas and seeing them grow into a completed piece of work. It's exciting for me to see someone else create something they can take pride in, and being able to see that gratification in someone else in real time is incredibly rewarding.

The majority of my teaching experience came in a camp setting, and while the outdoors are a passion of mine as well, camp showed me that I also want to expand my work with teens to include my passion for writing.

I am following a writing path in my degree, and my experience in the IB Program in high school and the honors program in college has shown me that writing both academically and creatively is a skill of mine, whether it is 1 or 30 pages or anything in between. Several years working with teens in a camp setting facilitating activities like games and high ropes courses has given me extensive experience teaching and guiding young people.

About the lesson

I'll start by getting to know them and letting them get to know me; being comfortable and enjoying the working environment is really important. I'll then let them be the ones to guide me to where they're struggling and what parts they have down so we don't focus on anything unnecessary.

I've worked with kids of all ages, teaching kids as young as seven years old, all the way to seventeen. I tutored an eleven year old in all subjects, with a main goal of keeping him on task and with his attention on his work.

Explaining, sometimes in great detail, what you don't know can be a stressful or vulnerable thing to do. It's important to trust, feel comfortable with, and enjoy talking to a tutor or teacher of any kind. Compatibility and qualifications are both important things to consider, and it's okay to take both into account.

This year, before the cornavius became the threat that it is today, my friends and I took a spontaneous roadtrip to the Yankee Candle Store in Deerfield Mass. As a kid I went there with my grandparents all the time, and this trip reminded me not to let myself outgrow the magic of little things like that.
