About Delaney

While my future likely holds a career as a healthcare provider, I have always loved learning and helping others learn. Not only is it exciting to relay new and challenging material, but it is also so rewarding to watch perspectives change and grow. My tutoring service is unique because I enjoy letting the students lead the way -- it is so important to allow young minds to gain insight through innovation and trial and error!

While I currently work as a full-time medical assistant as I accrue hours for physician assistant school, I have a experience in tutoring through college, as well as during high school. In high school, I volunteered time at our local elementary school to serve as a "high school helper" for grades 1-4. I primarily helped in the reading comprehension department. In college, I served as a biology advisor for incoming freshmen and held biology tutoring sessions as needed. Each of these experiences has qualified me to work with students of all ages.

About the lesson

In any type of relationship, trust has to be established. When working with new students, I feel that it's important to get to know each other a little bit first by finding common ground before diving into a topic that may make the student feel vulnerable. With my students, I make it clear from the start that I am only there to serve as a resource and a helping hand with a little extra insight, and the student is there to put in the time, effort, and determination.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Whenever a student feels the need to ask for help or a little extra insight, he/she should make sure to think through all of the available answers, options, resources, etc. This will teach efficiency and drive!

Details

My pricing system is fairly simple-- if the student and I are meeting for a session, my typical rate for students of any age (K-12) is $25/hour. If I am asked to edit and/or review an essay over a certain period of time, I charge $30 for 5 pages (or fewer), and an extra $5 for every page thereafter.
