About Ciera

I’m a certified educator with over six years of teaching experience in New York City schools. I currently live in Brooklyn and have a master's degree in education from Brooklyn College as well as a bachelor’s degree in journalism and communications from the University of Florida. I have taken my education and media planning expertise into advertising and now work for The Atlantic.

In my spare time I still enjoy using the experience and skills I gained as an educator to help students succeed. Between the pandemic and more recent unstable educational environments, I believe students need more help and encouragement than ever to feel confident and successful in their academic abilities.

I have always believed tutoring to be beneficial in that it can help bridge the understanding and skill gaps that can’t be addressed during school hours. As a private tutor, I can help, challenge, and develop your child further in both Math and ELA. I have a wide range of academic materials, experience, and strategies at my disposal to assist in the acquisition and retention of knowledge and development of critical thinking skills.

I truly enjoy helping students fall in love with math and reading, espcially between the grades K-4. These are foundational years for building solid math and reading skills and children can either develop poisitive or negative feelings about them. I strive to meet a student where they're at and address the most important growth areas in a way that feels fun and intriguing. In order to do this I get to know my students personally through introduction activites and mini assessments in order to make informed decisions about their specific learning path.

I have several years of classroom teaching experience in grades K-4 throughout New York City public elementary schools. I also obtained my M.Ed imn childhood education (grades 1-6) from Brooklyn College in May 2020.

I am currently working in publishing at the Atantic and have a B.S. in journalism from The University of Florida. With this specific background knowledge, I am also available to help hight schoolers with college entrance essays as well as various high school writing assignments.

About the lesson

In the first two sessions, my goal is to get to know a child student both as an individual and as a student.

I start off my sessions with appropriate grade-level introduction activities and conversation about what they hope to learn while in tutoring.

In the next session, I prepare two mini assessments based on the student's area of growth based on parental discussions.

Through this process, I can make a child feel safe in their learning environment while also ensuring there is a clear picture of what needs to be worked on in the coming tutoring sessions.

I have worked with various students in grades Kindergarten to 4th grade. I have expeirence teaching students with minor cognitive and learning disabilities as well as students who are gifted and talented. I know how to differentiate classwork for students who needs support or who need to be challenged further. I am happy to meet your child where they are in order to help them grow.
