About Stephen

At Enlighten Services, we are passionate about education. From teaching foundational reading and math skills to writing college essays, we want to help all students succeed and achieve their goals.

Our founder, Stephen Guerra, has over 15 years of experience teaching learners of all ages. Stephen is a certifed teacher in New York and Texas. He has a Masters in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Nazareth College of Rocheter and and Bachelors of Science in Business Administration from SUNY Buffalo.

I began teaching English in Taiwan. After my first lesson, I knew I found my passion and my career.

*1 year of experience tutoring individual students

*Masters of Education in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

*Bachelors of Science in Business

About the lesson

Firstly, I talk to the student about what they see as their strengths and weaknesses. Then we discuss their needs and goals. Next and most importantly, I assess the student in mulitple ways. I assess their reading skills, math abilities and other areas to understand what strategies may work best to help them meet their goals.

I have worked with students of all ages, backgrounds and ability. I have extensive experience working with students with limited English proficiency and special educational needs.

Find a tutor who you feel comfortable working with. Also, look for a tutor who is experienced and flexible. That will let you know if they have to ability to meet your individual needs.
