About Araxie

I offer tutoring for English and Writing related subjects, including College Application Essays. I am a student of Creative Writing and Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at the University of Chicago, as well as a working professional writer.

I have also been working as a tutor since I was in high school, when I tutored fellow students, as well as elementary school children in a writing-focused program. After that, I worked at Varsity Tutors for multiple years tutoring ACT, SAT, and college essay writing.

I have always loved writing, and as I have continued writing through high school and college, I have discovered that I really love working with other people to improve their English and Writing skills. In my tutoring sessions, my favorite experiences is when I am able to really click with a student, and I see them starting to really understand something that they struggled with in their sessions.

I started tutoring French in my high school, because I was very enthusiastic about the language and the class, and eagerly agreed when I was asked if I could tutor other students who were struggling. At the same time, I was part of a writing program through a local organization where I worked with my peers to improve our writing, and tutored elementary school children, providing homework help and teaching them to write through creative exercises. After that, I worked as a briefly as a math tutor for the University of Chicago Neighborhood Schools Program, and I tutored ACT, SAT, and Writing with Varsity Tutors for three years.

I am currently a student of Creative Writing and Near Eastern Studies at the University of Chicago. Through my education, I have experience with a wide variety of writing, as well as techniques for working with others to edit and improve their writing. In addition, I have experience working as a writer and experience tutoring writing and other subjects.

About the lesson

When working with a new student, I always start by discussing the student's goals, as well as their areas of strength and weakness. From that, I work with the student to create a study plan that will allow them to reach their goals. Depending on the student's needs, my tutoring process involves a mix of lessons reviewing key concepts, as well as hands-on practice accompanied by discussions where the student can learn from their difficulties.

I have worked most often with high school students, although I also have some experience with younger students.

I would say to look at the tutor's background and experience, and then to try to gauge from their profile and from talking to them whether they are a person you will work well with.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Before their first session, students should think about what their goals our and what they need help with. That will help the student to communicate effectively with their tutor and make sure they are getting the most out of each session.
