About Emily

Helping students develop a passion for both English and life is my number one goal. I have worked with students of all ages and abilities to facilitate their learning in a differentiated, multidisciplinary, and most importantly, fun way. I graduated summa cum laude from the University of Rhode Island, earning a degree in both English and Secondary Education. I am a licensed teacher in RI and work mostly with students in 7th through 12th grade, though I have tutoring experience with ages 6 and up. For me, English Language Arts is more than just understanding literature and writing essays. It's a key to critical thinking, making connections to our lives, and reflecting on the world we all share.

My favorite thing about teaching English is learning from my students. Throughout my teaching experience, I find my students making amazing connections and bringing new perspectives to the conversation. I thrive on these conversations with my students and always find that I learn as much from them as they do from me.

I graduated summa cum laude from the University of Rhode Island, earning degrees in both English and in Secondary Education.

I completed my student teaching at East Greenwich High School and have experience working with students of all abilities. While I am certified to teach 7th through 12th grade, I also have experience working as a live-in nanny and tutor to students 6 years of age and up.

I am a licensed teacher in the state of Rhode Island.

About the lesson

Ideally, I prefer to meet the student in person or over an online platform and get to know them, their interests, what they feel their strong points are, and where they would like some help.

My typical process when working with a new student is to combine their school curriculum with their own personal interests and hobbies. I believe in taking a multidisciplinary approach to learning and will tailor personalized, differentiated lesson plans to assist in the development of critical thinking skills across several school subjects.

Details

Typically, I charge the standard minimum of $50/hr for one student and $70/hr for two or more. However, in this critical time in our community, and with people facing unemployment, I am flexible.
