About Jeff
I have more than five years of experience teaching both children and adult English language learners, and currently teach high school students on various levels of English proficiency. In addition to this, I teach literature and writing, and am more than capable of helping you with any writing, revising, or editing needs. I hold both a Texas Secondary English teaching ceritificate, as well as a Texas English as a Second Language (ESL) ceritificate. Finally, I myself am a student of Spanish, and understand the necessary steps it takes to effectively learn a new language.

Nothing brings me more joy than seeing my students learn. Learning another language myself, I understand how difficult it can be, but also how rewarding the process can feel. I would love to help my future students feel the same way!
In 2016, I spent 6 months traveling and attending Spanish language school in Guatemala. Learning a new language with a fantastic and effective teacher ignited my passion for world languages, and gave me a desire to implement the process I used with learning Spanish to teaching English. Upon returning to the United States, I looked for an found a job teaching English to adults from a wide range of language backgrounds- Spanish, Hindi, Urdu, Arabic, French, and more! I loved my students and teaching them so much that I pursued my secondary English teaching certificate, and have taught at the high school level ever since!

Starting out with a new student, I typically:
1. Get to know them as a person.
2. Assess their current proficiency in the area they desire tutoring.
3. Discuss and document their specific goals for tutoring.
4. Develop an action plan for addressing these goals in order to maximize the effectiveness of our time together. My teaching style revolves around what the student enjoys, needs, and finds useful, and am very responsive to feedback.
I have worked with students from middle school to adults- all at varying levels of English proficiency. Having done this, I am able to effectively target and teach to the goals of all levels of learners.
Find someone that fits YOUR style of learning and goals. Every student has different needs, and even the most experienced teacher might not be the right match for what you want. Sample different teachers, don't rush into anything, and choose someone who you "vibe" with and who truly listens to and responds to your goals.
As a sophomore high school teacher, I LOVE having my former students who are seniors come back to my class, say hello, and tell me about their lives since my class. Nothing brings me more joy than seeing them succeed academically and personally. Aside from my teaching career, I love travelling, and am excited to travel to Peru this summer!

My current pricing system for one-on-one tutoring is as follows:
FREE 30 minute online trial lesson and consultation
$35 for in-person one hour session
$30 for online one hour session
In addition to this, I also offer writing feedback services, with rates varying based on the writing in need of feedback. I also offer group tutoring with discounted rates.
