About Ryan

Writing and literature tutoring from a published poet, playwright, lecturer, and ceritified private school teacher.

I most rewarding thing, for me, is when I am able to turn a student into a lifelong reader.

I was inspired to become a teacher because I had great teachers when I was in school. They sparked my love of reading and nurtured my passion for creative writing and I, in turn, want to do the same for my students.

I am an English/Professional Writing graduate from Kutztown University of PA (class of 2009). I also minored in literature. While attending Kutztown, I was a writer and editor for the college newspaper, The Keystone. I have since traveled back to Kutztown (as well as many other venues) to read my creative works from my published collections.

Currently, I am an English and literature teacher at ATG Learning Academy in Chalfont, PA. We are a small, private school for children with learning disabilities. Both our school and our classroom sizes are small because the teachers cater to the our student's specific learning styles.

About the lesson

First, I think it's essential to get to know the student, as well as what the students likes to do (interests, hobbies, etc). If they enjoy reading and writing, I'd like to find out more about that. My teaching style can be anecdotal at times, so I like being able to relate what a student likes to do with the subject matter that they are learning.

I have worked in small classroom sizes (typically a 4:1 ratio), and my student body mainly consists of those with learning disabilities (or, as I prefer to say, those who "learn differently").

When I have given larger lectures and readings as a guest speaker or creative writer, they were at the collegiate level and the classroom sizes varied.

Make sure that the teacher caters to your learning style. If they don't take the time to figure that out, you will not learn effectively. This applies to any and all subjects.
