About Victoria

Every student is an opportunity to learn a new way to teach. Since all learners are different I do my best to be an actively flexible educator and be aware of my student's potential and limitations. The importance of communicative learning is emphasized in my lessons, and in addition to my academic background highlighting English writing, speaking, and grammar, I also continue to develop myself as an educator via conferences and mentors in my field.

After graduation college in 2012 I was drawn to the ESL world as it provided the perfect marriage of traveling abroad and growing my skills. After completing the CELTA course from Cambridge University, I became enamored with my instructors and the magic they seemed to work in the classroom. I wanted to be like them, to do the magic that they made look so effortless. After I began teaching, I realized that it was the most satisfied I had ever felt with any of my positions, and it made me want to constantly better myself, in all ways, o that I could better myself as an educator.

I'm currently an adult ESL teacher at a private school in Boston. I teach 7 hours a day in various levels and for various skills. I have a year of teaching abroad under my belt, as well as 3 years teaching teens and children in both ESL and subjects for native students.

About the lesson

My typical process starts with learning the goals of the student, how they learn, and what type of student they are. From there I can best determine a starting point for lessons, but I like to make it clear that there is room for trial and error at the beginnings of the lessons; my lesson style is not set in stone, and should a student prefer another route, I'm always willing to try until we find the one that works best.

I have worked with international ESL learners from the age of 6 to the age of 70; all with different language goals and learning styles. I have also taught native English speakers in the subjects of Writing, SAT Prep, ACT Prep, and low level math.

I would tell any student looking for an educator to search for someone that you are compatible and comfortable with. It's difficult to be productive and honest if you feel uncomfortable for any reason. I would also tell them to look for someone who demonstrates patience and flexibility with their teaching methods; there's no such thing as a 'one-size-fits-all' teaching method.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Student's should think carefully about their goals, and the ways that they are already striving towards those goals before a teacher comes into the picture. Students are much more capable than they realize.

Details

For private lessons, my rate is $55 per hour for students wanting to meet once per week. For more frequent meetings, I may be able to negotiate a lower rate on a case by case basis.
