About Cara

Here is an experienced attorney who has specialized in writing decisions for judges and motions for many years -- eventually branching out into writing full-time. After revising two complete Federal government regulations and working as Speechwriter, I returned to the United States as a published author and professional editor to teach ENGL 095, 121 and 122 for more than four years at Brookdale Community College. I have also taught Business Law at Strayer University as well as different Legal courses at Middlesex County College in New Jersey and Legal Writing at the University of Memphis School of Law.

College and High School Students -- I help local high school students improve their writing skills, whether for their classroom assignments or their grasp of tenses. I have worked with many juniors and seniors in NJ and out-of-state on their university entrance essays. I do enjoy working online with foreign students who wish to improve their spoken and written English because video makes it easy. Currently I do not work with students under 12 years old.

English as a Second Language -- A pan-cultural writer who believes that literacy is the first and most important step to success in all facets of life, I have lived around the world and been exposed to many different cultures and languages. I understand how difficult English is to learn for non-native speakers. I have developed my own methods for teaching how to grasp the most important concepts of speaking and writing English with ease.

About the lesson

After I meet the student with his or her parent, we chat for a few moments until the parent has looked me over and feels fine about leaving us alone. Then I always donate a full half hour of my time to getting to know the student without prying into personal details: simply talking about school, likes and dislikes, special skills. I have found that many students are nervous to meet a new tutor -- I do not know whether they have worked with a string of them before or what kind of pressure they are under. I therefore try to relax them so that they trust me more than their teachers, stressing that no question is "dumb," and after that our lessons tend to go very well.
