About Brianna

Hey! My name is Bri and I am a college student looking to get back into the tutoring game. I'm a Psychology and Political Science double major with a love for English lit and musical theatre. In the past, I've worked as a TA, a Kumon tutor, and a speech and debate coach and I currently work as a proctor at the Office of Accessible Education on my campus. While school is out and many of us are stuck at home we have the opportunity to broaden our horizons. I hope I can help my clientele to do so and learn something from the experience.

I love watching things click for other people. Those moments where a problem that was utterly baffling finally makes sense or when a concept that was just out of reach is grasped are truly wonderful. It reminds me of how we all never stop growing. On top of that, I just like to be helpful and to make peoples lives better and I believe that with tutoring I can do just that.

Education runs in the family! My family owns a child care development centre and from helping out there I knew from a young age that I love to teach. Spending time helping friends with assignments in middle and high school soon blossomed into tutoring, and then TA-ing, and the rest is history.

I have been a tutor on and off for a couple of years now and have experience working in both one on one contexts and group settings. I have been a freelance tutor, TA, Kumon instructor, and speech and debate coach in the past and I am currently a proctor employed by my university. I believe that this experience has provided me with a great deal of hands-on training.

About the lesson

I like to begin by assessing my student's goals: Are they looking for help with a specific assignment? An overall better understanding of a text or topic? Or maybe to gain an analyzation skill that can help them in the future? This can be done with the student themselves or with a parent or guardian, but I believe that it creates the best beginning to our journey together. After discussing, I like to see how my students work and there comfortability with and understanding of the subject or assignment. Depending on their learning styles I will then complete assignments with the student or simply make and go over corrections of assignments completed before our session. After that and in future sessions, it really depends on the students, their goals, and how I think I can help them. My approach is very personalized.

I have worked with students from pre-school age to well into adulthood.

Find a teacher whose teaching style works for you. Everyone learns differently and because you are seeking out help you have the ability and opportunity to find a perfect fit, someone who really allows you to learn and grow. figure out what your learning style is and find someone who can help you specifically achieve your goals.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
- What do I want to gain from having a tutor/ this session?

- What is hard for me to do on my own?

- What are the overarching problems I have in this subject?

- What would be the most helpful way for someone to teach me?

- What motivates me?
