About Gestina

My research concentrates on how poverty, underemployment, and low-community engagement’s impact low-income and minority populations’ vulnerability to human trafficking. I taught Special Education to 5th-12th graders in public and charter schools in Milwaukee, WI for 5 years. I primarily taught Math and English Lanuage Arts. But, I also taught other subjects, like Adaptive/Transition Skills, in a Comprehensive Behavior Unit/Self-Contained Classroom to students with Intellectual/Cognitive Disabilities. I earned my B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and my Master’s Degree in Urban Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I earned my Special Education Specialist credentials from Cardinal Stritch University.

I love serving others and trying to make the world better for those most vulnerable.

I have a Special Education Teaching Certification, with 5 years of experience working with students with learning and cognitive disabilities.

I have a Master's Degree in Urban Studies, with an emphasis on research methodologies and statistical analysis around the subjects of History, Political Science, and Sociology.

About the lesson

1. Meet and identify the needs of my client and what they expect from our sessions.

2. Have an agenda for sessions determined by the session times and subject areas that are most relevant per our initial conversation.

3. I expect my clients to communicate their needs, but I will also explicitly ask questions that will help, if my client finds it difficult to articulate those needs.

I have taught General Education and Special Education students in grades 5th-12th, ranging in ages from 20-22 years old.

Settings included:

1. The General Education classroom in whole-group, small-group, and one-on-one instruction models.

2. Resource Room, where I provided "pull-out" instruction to small groups, pairs, or individual students.

3. Comprehensive Behavior Unit/Self-Contained Classroom for students with Intellectual/Cognitive Disabilies and Traumatic Brain Injuries, which also affected processing functions.
