About Mariana

Hello! My name is Mariana. I have a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Denver and a master's degree in English Literature from Simmons University. I am certified by the state of Massachusetts to teach English. I also have a 120 hour TEFL certification from TEFL UK.

I have been teaching in the classroom and online for seven years, and I have experience working with students of all ages in many different subject areas. I absolutely love being a teacher. My teaching career began as a reading tutor for children and adults at 826 Boston and Literacy Volunteers of Massachuestts. I then taught middle school reading, writing, grammar, and history for five years at Edward Brooke Charter School. I spent one year teaching English at York English in China. I currently teach online English language classes.

About the lesson

In our first session together, we can discuss your goals and needs as a learner. From that conversation, I can plan our time together. I believe that all students have the right to a learning environment in which they feel safe and appreciated, they are held to high expectations, and they have the room and support necessary to grow. It is my aim to always create that kind of classroom culture. I believe I owe it to my students and the communities they are a part of to bring consistency, curiosity, and warmth to my role as a teacher. My classes are student driven, so it is important to me that I understand your goals, your style of learning, and the things you are interested in!
