About Ava

Ava Roberts is a driven, motivated, and passionate member of the senior class at Hackley School in Tarrytown, New York. She is currently working as an assistant teacher for the Hudson Scholars program, a partnership in which Hackley High Schoolers and teachers work with underserved middle schoolers from Sleepy Hollow Public School. Ava is a mentor and advisor to the Scholars, as well as an assistant teacher in subjects such as English, History, and Music. Additionally, Ava has a remote internship as a writer for The Borgen Project, an advocacy group and magazine working as an ally to the world's poor (30% of Ava’s profits from tutoring would be donated to this organization). Their website has millions of visitors annually, and Ava's articles will soon be available to their audience. Ava recently completed her junior year through distance learning, and is teaching middle schoolers participating in the Hudson Scholars program and completing her internship over zoom, making her well equipped to tutor online.

Ava has a passion for writing, and has worked to improve her craft throughout her time in the classroom and beyond. She maintains an unofficial GPA above a 4.0, with much of her course work focusing on the humanities. Throughout her Junior year, Ava completed a research thesis analyzing the intersection of today's Indie music and the rock n' roll of the 1960s. The project spans over 50 pages and is currently under review by multiple scholarly journals for publishing.

Working with others and sharing her craft is a high priority for Ava. Throughout her junior year, she worked as a peer tutor for her high school in subjects such as English and History, as well as in the Lower School for general studies. Beyond the core academic areas, Ava also leads a program focused on teaching elementary schoolers at the Park Avenue School in the arts, both performing and visual, as they do not have a formal arts program.
