About Sho

I am an Iolani grad in 2018 and I have experience in teaching students throughout grades K-12 since 2018. I have taught ESL students (Japanese and Korean students) reading and writing whilst teaching native speaking students SSAT and basic homework help. I can pace with the student's learning curve to make sure they learned everything they should know before I move on. I can also pep for SAT, core science subjects, and literature up to high school level.

The most satisfying this about tutoring is watching students learn and understand the material. Regardless of the difficulty it always motivates to know that students find interest in learning once they understand a thing or two. I believe learning is all about connecting small dots together and it is my job as a tutor to help them lead to those dots.

I was offered a job as a tutor where I used to get help with SAT from. I picked up how to teach kids and how to maintain their focus from the learning institute.

I have worked as a part time tutor prior to college and the pandemic. I alsovolunteer tutored fellow students struggling in sciences in college.

About the lesson

I always give an assessment test appropriate for the students' level before I teach. Instead of giving them an assessment level based on their age or grade, I tend to test them based on what they struggle at to see room for improvements.

I have worked with ESL students who are new to English. I am bilingual so I helped students only speaking Japanese or Korean. I also helped other native English speaking students with their homework (reading, writing, math, etc.) and SSAT/PSAT/SAT prep.

I would say the students should pick a teacher they are comfortable learning with and easy to understand. In schools, teachers are superiors who are supposedly correct in most cases but I believe that sometimes creates a barrier and room for students to ask questions or truly wonder about what they are learning.

I started a Discord server for the sole purpose of teaching languages (Japanese and Korean) free of charge. Although it is still under development I am still excited to see how it turns out.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
None. If the question is inappropriate or too out of context, the students should be warned but I believe any questions are valid and students should not be held back from asking what they wonder about.

I am not a licensed tutor so I would keep the pricing between $15-20 per session or per hour. There will be no change in price unless the price is within the given range.
