About Angela
I take the skills students already have and then build upon that skill set. Each session is geared towards that student and their specific needs. I'm dedicated to every student succeeding and becoming life-long learners! Together we will break down any difficulties and figure out how to conquer the subject matter. I help students use the skills they have, amp them up, and make learning meaningful and relevant to them.
I have worked in education for 20 years, with kids from all grade levels, and I dedicate my time to what is important for each individual student. I make learning fun and interactive while helping them build their knowledge and confidence in learning. All students are different and each one learns in their own way. I enjoy figuring out how to make their thrist for knowledge grow along with their skills.
I have certifications for all subjects grades 1-8, Special Education Pre-K through adult and I am a reading specialist. I throughly enjoy what I do and dedicate myself and time to my students.
I started teaching private pre-school and I taught while earning my degree. After graduation, I started teaching in the public sector. I then started private tutoring, in 2006, and have continued until currently.
My degrees are in Special Education, Regular Education grades 1-8 and Reading. I have worked on regular campuses and for the last 5 years of my public school career, I worked on a behavior training campus. I was the lead teacher/department head for our campus and helped build academic curriculum for challenging students.

With each new student I do activities to get to know their likes and dislikes and also to build a relationship with them. I always do an assessment to gather information and see where the student is currently performing. I use reputable and nationally recognized assessments like the QRI or IRI and use the data to drive my learning plan. From then on, I use our sessions and the student's progress to build and continue the learning process for that student.
I have worked with regular education students, learning disabled, ADHD, behavioral, emotionally disturbed, non-verbal and autistic students.
Give it 100%, be willing to make mistakes and do not hesitate to let the teacher know that you don't understand or need the subject taught another way. Also, if after 4 weeks there are not any gains or progress, evaluate is that teacher is the right fit.
I recently started tutoring a young man that was 2 grade levels behind in reading. This was due to a rare visual impairment that was recently diagnosed. After working with him for three months, he not only was reading above grade level, but he decided he wanted to go back to public school! His self-confidence, along with his reading skill set, improved immensely and he is now thriving and either outperforming or encouraging his peers.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What do you do if you do not understand something?
Do you read the directions for assignments and become confused?
When you read something that is new and unfamiliar do you find yourself having to reread sentences over and over again?
What do you think you need the most help with?
These are questions for students in the 3rd grade and up. Parents would answer for younger students.

Ms. Major took her time with my kiddo and made sure my child felt comfortable. She had interesting and fun activities that helped my child learn. I was uncomfortable with doing online tutoring, but she eased my worries and we've had great success! Highly recommend!
