About Jess

My service will come with a smile and encouragement. I'm not here to judge or make you feel dumb because I have felt that from tutors and it never helps. We're going to use what you're good at to help you strengthen your other skills.

I believe education is the tool we all need to overcome the difficulties in life. Children got me interested in teaching, but when I realized the classroom was not where my skills could be best applied I decided to start tutoring. Hopefully this will help me make a greater impact on each learner.

Studied Secondary English Education at Indiana University- Bloomington. Graduated and went into a field related to college and career preparation.

About the lesson

Forming and Norming.

I get to know the student and assess them on their entry level knowledge and confidence. My approach is purely strengths-based and I prefer scaffolding to ensure the student is ready to move on.

When it comes to Language Arts and Social Sciences you should definitely be looking for someone with high EI (Emotional Intelligence). These fields require emotion and the ability to express those emotions, as well as empathy and communication.

I have the funniest, goofiest, and wildest mentee I could have asked for in life. She is a high school Junior who at the beginning of November celebrated her birthday. What made her birthday special for me was getting to take her to an expensive cake place so she could get balloons, desserts, and a huge sugar high-- the whole experience was something she had never had before! Without other birthday parties or celebrations, this one will definitely go down as a top childhood birthday. Fun things like that make it easier to talk to her when things go "wrong," and I hope to keep building a bond with her so she can continue to see me as someone who is reliable and cares for her goals.
