About Johnny

I am offering tutoring in piano, english, and soccer

Soccer: I have been playing soccer for 14 years. I am captain of Regis High School Soccer and Rockville Center U17. From these positions, I have learned leadership qualities. I know how to push my teammates to be their best and I can do the same for other children. I played for the Eastern New York State 2004 team, a showcase team of some of the top players from my age group.

Piano: I have been playing and performing by ear for 13 years. I have experience as a songwriter and leading a band. I can play anything I hear. I have perfect pitch and sense of rhythm. I know thousands of songs. I can teach beginners to read music or to play by ear. I have played about 100 gigs at places ranging from local bars and private events to Carnegie Hall and the Nassau Colliseum.

English: I have always enjoyed writing and have an aptitude for it. I have been proofreading my classmates' and siblings' writing for 3 years. I am a junior at Regis High School, a renowned institution with an esteemed English program. I know very well the extent to which proficiency in writing can positively impact a young person's life and the opportunities they get. I benefited from good, personalized english instruction as a younger boy, which I realize many other children have not. I would like to pass on the many things I've learned from my great teachers to struggling young writers so that they may have the same opportunities.

I started proofreading my classmates' work in the beginning of freshman year. I had done well on our first English paper where others struggled and I have been asked to review my classmates' work since.

I have always enjoyed writing and have an aptitude for it. I have been proofreading my classmates' and siblings' writing for 3 years. I am a junior at Regis High School, a renowned institution with an esteemed English program.

About the lesson

I will ask a new student to either show me their favorite past piece of writing or write me their best-constructed paragraph about their favorite hobby,book,movie, etc. This will give me a sense of their writing ability. I will then go over the strengths and weakness evident in their work with the student in a constructive way. I will also outline the areas we need to work on with them.

I have worked with both high school students and elementary school students.

Be open to all constructive criticism. People havr a tendency to become overly attached and proud of their writing. They tend to block out suggestions from others as a result. Regardless of how good of a writer you think you are, there is always room to improve, so always listen to others' comments. If after you have listened intently, you still disagree, then feel free to ignore the advice, but valuable input can come from anywhere, so ALWAYS LISTEN TO OTHERS.
