About Katie

As a PhD student specializing in History and Theology, I can help students of all levels with writing, English literature, History, and most humanities topics. I specialize in medieval history, but also have experience most topics in Western History to the present. I have a Master of Science from the University of Edinburgh in Book History and Material Culture, and my Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Literature from American University. Currently, I am at Durham University.

Academic writing is not all there is to life, however, and I can also assist in editing resumes, CVs, cover letters, and job applications. Previously, I've worked in financial marketing in New York and Washington, DC, so I know a thing or two about life outside of academia.

As a perpetual student myself, I love helping people learn. Though formal education is temporary for most, I believe I can help those who are willing to become a great student so they can achieve their life goals.

I have been teaching for as long as I remember, though my students were sometimes my brothers and parents. As a PhD student I am training to become a teacher and have previously given lectures and seminars for the past two years.

As a current PhD student and former career woman, I feel I have an appropriate amount of both work and academic experience to help students with whatever life may throw at them. I have experience planning, writing, and editing dissertations as well as job applications and cover letters. Hopefully some of my past can help another person's future.

About the lesson

Each student is a true individual and their tutoring should reflect that, rather than a "one-size-fits-all" policy. When first working with a new student, I like to get to know them a bit to understand what will work best for their learning. As time moves on, hopefully I can do my best to tailor my tutoring to their needs.

I am open to working with all kinds of students of all ages. If anyone is in need of help, I will do my best to assist.

Don't be shy in being honest. Find a teacher that suits you best so you can learn your best. Also, ask questions!

Recently I particpated in a Dholki, a Pakistani pre-wedding celebration centered around drumming, dancing, and food. Just from attending, I learned so much about the culture and the importance of the dhol. I even picked up a few words of Urdu!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I would suggest students have a clear understanding of where they are struggling in a specific subject area, or have a piece of work ready to review. It is always easier when we can jump right in and get to work straight away.
