About Elise

Many people believe a single high schooler is simply not capable of running her own business. She does not have the knowledge, the capacity, the experience to be even remotely successful. She is in it for the money and does not care about education. I am here to challenge all of those statements. My name is Elise Kopp, and I am a tutor in the Midlothian, VA area. I am proficient in math under Geometry, VA history under World History II, and science under Biology. My strongest skills include providing vocal lessons in the traditional choral style and musical theatre as well as English up to an advanced college level. I have a passion for learning more each day and helping others learn as well. I originally struggled with finding the motivation to learn, which is why I incorporate a psychological motivation technique in al of my tutoring encounters. I have been tutoring others since the seventh grade, and I am beyond successful in conveying information to a variety of difficult learners. I am accepting of all mental health and physical health barriers, and edit my plans to each individual student. I love to learn and to provide knowledge, so you will never find a more loving, accepting, and passionate tutor.

After excelling in areas where fellow students failed, I would consistently be elected a student officer, a classroom leader, and a voluntary tutor. After helping several students during my lunch breaks and recesses, parents would seek me out for additional after school assistance. I happily obliged and eventually got paid for my skills.

I have received several educational honors, my mother was a very passionate teacher, and I also incorporate my leadership seminar training into everything I do. I do my best to make everyone feel comfortable and valued, as I once struggled to learn as well. I also have a passion for psychology, meaning I can reach people fairly effectively through words and body language.

About the lesson

I contact the family unit or legal guardians to get background information on the student. I spend a quick elavulation visit with the student , asking them about how they learn best and what they struggle with. I go home to create a personalized study plan, and return as soon as possible with the plan to begin tutoring.

I work with students of all kinds. From younger students to high school students above my age and height; mentally sound students with a strong work ethic to mentally ill students unable to find motivation and focus; and physically able athletes that have a passion for sports to weaker students that prefer their studies or video games. I will work with all kinds of learners happily.

I ask you to find somebody that will ask you the hard questions. What motivates you? What makes you want to study hard enough that you got a tutor? Are you tutoring to learn more or to get a grade up for your parents? Find somebody that challenges your mind in all ways.

My longest-term student recently left me as a tutor, and made sure to tell me it was because I got her to a point where she didn't need the help anymore. Her family invited me to dinner, and the sweet little girl I tutored even poured my drink and hugged me many times. It was a wonderful evening, ending with playing Drawful with her family and a tearful goodbye, promising to keep in touch.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Close your eyes in a safe environment. Imagine your ideal tutoring situation. Are you one on one or in a group? Are you writing with pencil or pen? Are you doing an activity or a school based assignment? How many breaks do you want? How long is the session? Imagine it down to the last detail and open your eyes. What don't you have? When you realize what you are missing, you will know what to ask for first.

Details

I ask for $30 dollars per 45 minutes, not including a free student evaluation visit for me to make my plan. I ask that I receive my payment for the first tutoring lesson prior to the evaluation, just to keep the family unit from not proceeding with the tutoring.
