About Julie
I am a patient teacher, and because I like for students to take ownership of their learning I like to let them make connections. I will explain things carefully and thoroughly, and I love the challenge of finding creative ways to get concepts accross.
The love of learning is infectious, and I love the look in a student's eyes when the pieces fall in place, and there is that satisfaction of a new skill learned.
As a high school graduate, I taught my two sisters their language arts for one year before college. Lessons included literature, grammar, spelling, and writing.
After graduating with my BA, I jumped into a home school tutoring position with grade school and then middle school students.
I have a BA in Liberal Arts and Culture. I have always enjoyed the English language, particularly reading and grammar. I'm not a writer, but I enjoy the poetry of a well-turned phrase.

I would look at their goals, where they are currently, and what materials and curriculum they are using. Then we could make a plan to get them to their goal!
I have mostly worked with grade school and middle school students. I have a firm grasp of the English language, and could tutor comfortably through high school.
Be prepared to put in the work to master new skills, and enjoy the process along the way. Life is learning! Look for someone who loves words, so that whether you are studying a piece of literature or analyzing the grammar of a sentence, that love for words is what will motivate you in your assignments.
My children and I are part of a Nature Study group. We meet with friends twice a month to take a nature walk for about an hour, observing anything that catches our eye along the way, and noting changes in the seasons. Then we sit together as a group and nature journal. I love seeing what our children choose to draw or paint, how their skills increase each week, and how their focus and attention to detail has grown.
