About Nicolas
How do we learn a language? We learn a language when we understand what we are listening to, or what we are reading. Once we have learned enough vocabulary and grammar through reading and listening, we can speak the language.
In our lessons, I will expose you to language that you understand, which is called "comprehensible input." I will tell you stories, and I will make sure that you understand what you are listening to by using comprehension aids, such as, drawings, gestures, facial expressions, and sounds. After I have told you a story, I will provide you with a written copy of the story and an audio recording of it. These media will allow you to experience the stories again -- a story which you understand well -- without the use of the comprehension aids we used in our lesson.
In addition to lessons, I will provide you with books and audio resources that you can use to further expose yourself to comprehensible English outside of our time in lessons. Using these approaches to instruction, you will steadily gain vocabulary and improve your grammar while being on the path to fluency.
I enjoy providing students with language instruction that really works, as the method I use is supported by second language acquisition research.
