About Kaitlyn

As a first generation college student at an accredited Ivy League (Dartmouth College), I am positive that I can help you take the next steps toward bettering your writing and literary analysis skills. I have been tutoring for two years through The National Honor Society at the Bronx High School of Science. My experience is in the SAT reading and writing section as well as in both regular and AP english classes. With a background in journalism, a score of 730 on the SAT reading portion, and a score of 5 on the 2020 AP Literature exam, I am well equipped with the knowledge to improve your writing and, hopefully, your outlook on all things written!

I enjoy helping students to develop a means of expression that has no labels. Through the written word one can express themselves without race, sex, size, shape, and sexuality being factors determining the worth of their words. The written word is where students can really and truly express themselves, and I relish being a contributor to their self-expression and future success.

I am a graduate of the world reknowned Bronx High School of Science. As a student in this specialized high school, I was an Editor-in-Chief of the award winning newspaper, "The Science Survey." My work can be found through this link: (concealed information)

In high school, I maintained a 4.0 gpa as well as excelled in AP English Language and AP Literature and Composition classes, scoring a 4 out of 5 on the AP English language exam in 2019 and a 5 out of 5 on the AP Literature and Composition exam in 2020. I was accepted into Dartmouth College with an SAT reading and writing score of 730 out of 800.

About the lesson

My absolute first step is to understand where a student feels the least comfortable in the realm of writing. It's important for me, as a tutor, to know what aspects of writing that a student struggles with so that I am aware of what I need to go over. Because big words and unfamiliar punctuation can be intimidating to the eyes of new writers, I begin with introducing the ideas behind literary concepts and gramatical rules: the fancy names come later. From there, I simply teach the art of storytelling; the main ingredient to any good essay. Most students don't strruggle with finding supporting ideas, instead the main issue lies in linking those ideas together in a coherent and fluent manner. With my help, your student will be forming high scoring essays in no time!
