About Kate

Hire a native speaking, college educated, professional teacher with ten years of experience teaching all that is English: reading comprehension, writing (creative and academic), essay writing, research paper writing, business writing, editing, and ACT / SAT/ GRE / IELTS expert test prep instruction. I also teach history and humanities subjects like art history, critical studies in film, anthropology and the like. I have a degree from New York University. On my roster currently I have students at Harvard, NYU, Columbia, University of Virginia, Univertisy of Frankfurt (Goethe), University of Toronto, and Univeristy of Lisbon. My elementary through high school students hail from Silicon Valley to Hong Kong and everywhere in between.

My SAT/ ACT / GRE tutoring has proven resutls. My students add on 100-150 points to their SAT scores on average and 3-4 points to their ACT. I have a system and method that involves assessment and custom tailoring a plan to help you diminish errors on your exam. I also work conertedly on helping you get a perfect essay score on the exams. You can check for some student reviews on my facebook page (below) to see how I help students reach their goals for college entrance exam scores.

I also support students who are applying to college by working with them to get the best and most compelling Common Appp essays possible. We hold a Personal Statement Boot Camp as well as many one on one session with students. The essay is a crucial part of your application and it's important to make it stand out.

Literature is my passion and opening up the world of advanced literacy to students of all ages (8-80) is supremely satisfying for me. I teacher students from all over the world and it's the best job anyone can have.

My ESL system involves speaking, reading, writing and advanced work in pronunciation.

I am patient, creative, and proactive. My goal is to have students with maximum confidence who are empowered to take on exams of any difficulty and who achieve the grades and the academic results they desire. Together we form a team and we get it done!

We have a group for students who are getting ready to crush their ACT and SAT exams there as well:

The best thing about my job is my students. I have never had a student who was not a miracle, or who was not worth maximum time and effort. They inspire me every day and their curiosity and talent are amazing.

I love to travel.  Being tied down to brick and mortar was not going to work for me longterm.  My own daughter traveled with me and became a homeschooled kid (travelschooled) several years ago and I, with math and science partner tutors, educated her all the way to a highly selective college in the US.
I added more students on the longer I worked with her and that is how it came about.

I have a BFA from New York Univerisity in film from Tish School of the Arts.  I worked as an assistant editor at The Paris Review for several years and I have pubished short fiction in a few journals.  I have a track record of strong proven results in the ACT / SAT/ GRE and IELTS exams.  My students always stack on points, I have never had one who did not.

We start with assessment. It's important to know the baseline of where the student is coming in. For writing students, we go through a short initial writing assessment. The same for ESL and testing students.  Together we review where the student is situated on entry and we dicsuss and agree on the strategy we will use going forward. The student takes a stakeholder role and everyone is happy with the way forward as we begin.

Literally ever kind of student.  American and British students with fluent English, students from Hong Kong to Shenzhen to Jordan, Malaysia, Canada, Portugal, Germany, it's amazing.
I have students who come with almost no Engish at all.
I also have students with learning challenges and we work well together.

Make 100% sure they are native speaking. Ask for an assessment first and listen to what they have to say about what they believe to be your baseline, challenges and strengths.  Find out their system or teaching structure for you in particular. No two students are the same and each one needs a tailored plan and system.  Lastly, do you feel postive after working with them?  That is an important aspect not to be overlooked. Energy is important.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
An assessment is the key to fact finding what a teacher is going to do with you.  Ask them how they plan to take your success forward.
