About Samantha

Hi! I'm Sammie, and I am an unashamed book worm and history fanatic! Through taking unforgettable Humanities classes with amazing teachers, I not only experienced great success at school but also grew an undying love for the subjects. This is the foundation of my commitment to helping out children, whatever their abilities might be.

I have been tutoring students at all grade levels in English, History, and Writing since my sophomore year of high school. I can tutor for both regular level classes as well as AP ones as I took a plethora of AP Humanities courses throughout high school. These courses have not only deepened my skills and knowledge in their respective areas but have also enhanced my understanding as to what is expected in a classroom setting.

I know that the Humanities are a difficult set of subjects, which can make them hard to enjoy. Through tutoring, I hope to help kids overcome these barriers and share my love for these subjects with other people!

I have always loved teaching, working with children, and the Humanities. Because of this, in sophomore year of high school—a time during which I felt as though I was pretty strong in English and History—I began tutoring. There is nothing more rewarding than helping a child understand something with which they had previously struggled!

I have been tutoring students at all grade levels since my sophomore year of high school. I am currently pursuing a major in History at Colgate University. Additionally, throughout high school, I took and achieved great success at A.P. U.S. History, A.P. English Langauge and Composition, A.P. English Literature and Composition, and A.P. Statistics. Furthermore, I have partaken in various college-level History and English seminars, including ones at Stanford, Yale, and Tufts.

About the lesson

When I first start with a student, I talk to both them and their parents to identify what they would like to get out of our work together. From there, I incorporate parts of this conversation into future work and assignments.

I have mostly worked with students in middle school—grades five through eight—, but I also have experience with tutoring children in elementary school and early years of high school. My tutoring experience has generally consisted of helping children deepen their understanding and analytical skills of literature and history, advance their writing techniques, and improve their grammar.

Try to find someone that you would find interesting and engaging! This can be especially hard if you don't find the subject interesting, but it makes the tutoring experience more valuable and fun.
