About Amanda
Hi there, I began as a preschool teacher in a private school about seven years ago. Since then I have earned my Master's in early childhood education from Boston College and gained 4 years of lead teaching experience in Massachusetts public schools (kindergarten, first grade and second grade.) Last year I taught kindergarten in Winchester pubic schools. While I absolutely loved my job as a classroom teacher, I am looking for something more flexible due to a growing family. As an early childhood educator, a lot my attention was focused on developing early literacy skills in young students; this, of course, in combination with fostering a love for reading! Our time together would begin with an initial assessment of alphabet knowledge and then proceed with tailored instruction centered on developing and supporting your child's phonetic, comprehension and fluency skills. I am happy and willing to meet in any public place. Thanks for your consideration!
I enjoy developing relationships with my students and helping them become stronger and more confident readers.
I began teaching soon after I graduated from college. My theater background translated very well in the early childhood setting. As anyone with small children can imagine, teaching 5 and six year olds all day can compare with a ten act play!
I have a theater and english background from Wake Forest University in addition to a Master's in early childhood education from Boston College. I have 2 years of preschool experience and 4 years of teaching experience in Massachusetts public schools (kindergarten, first grade and second grade).

In addition to getting to know each other in the first session, I would administer an unintimidating initial assessment of your kiddo's alphabet knowledge. I would also like to gage reading interest and speak with you, the parent, about your child's literacy experience in school and your concerns. In proceeding sessions we would play literacy games and strengthen skills (based on your child's needs) through reading exercises.
