About Yi
I am a Taiwanese born Economics and English undergraduate who studied in the US.
I am fluent in English and Mandarin.
Teaching TOEFL and English in general:
I am an online tutor specialized in teaching Taiwanese students and TOFEL preparation. I have been simultaneously teaching 10+ students for a year now.
Finding individual weaknesses and communicating to find an optimal teaching and learning style is my strength.
On teaching Traditional Chinese
I love experiencing and sharing culture with anyone from a different background. My profound undestanding of Traditional Chinese and Chinese history transform learning into a cultural experience.
I am a native Chinese speaker who majored in English Literature/Translation, so I am very proficient in Chinese and English. I can precisely convey my thoughts in both languages. I lived in Washington D.C. for 3 years and did an exchange term in Stockholm, Sweden.
Growing up, I learned Chinese through 注音符號(Traditional Chinese phonetic alphabet) and picked up the Pinyin system used in China for Simplified Chinese throughout school life. I am proficient in both. I can also speak Taiwanese (very similar to Hokkien dialect).
I taught 15 students over the course of 3 years, and am experienced with online tutoring setup.

1. Fully understand the goals of my students and pinpoint the best teaching material/style for the session.
2. Walk in their shoes - look at recurring mistakes my students make and figure out what caused this mistake, did they misunderstand a key concept? How can I fix this?
Students choose 1 on 1 tutoring to interact with the tutor, and as a tutor, I should be able to provide timely feedbacks. I strive for efficiency and I try to prep each class with a system that I think best suits my student.
