About Kellen

Hi! My name is Kellen and I am a current college student. I have a lifelong love of English, literature and writing. It has been something that has followed me through all my many years of schooling, and I would love to be able to help others perfect and hone their writing and reading comprehension skills. I began tutoring second grade students in 2012 in reading skills, and have moved up to working in High School and College tutoring other students and peers to make their writing and English skills amazing.

I absolutely love writing! Ever since I was young, I have enjoyed school the most when I was writing. Not only that, but I love working with others and helping them to grow in ability.

I have always wanted to be a teacher, and when the opportunity arose for me to begin tutoring, I gladly took it. I am studying to begin teaching English in a foreign country once I graduate and get my degree as well.

I am a current college student, and have spent every year since I was 12 as a tutor for some form of English, writing or reading comprehension.

About the lesson

My process involves getting to know the student, their learning style and then jumping in to whatever work they need to be done! Nothing allows me to begin working with a student better than to actually begin working and collaborating together.

I have worked with students ranging from 2nd grade to middle school, high school and beyond. I have worked with boys and girls, men and women, and those who have trouble with reading or writing and need some extra help and encouragement.

My main adivce would be that if a student is passionate about learning and also interested in helping themself, they will be able to improve with the right teacher. Whenever I needed help when I was in school, I would look for the person that I clicked with and that would allow me to enjoy working with them.

I helped a football player who lives in my dorm on his third essay of the semester. He was really worried about sentence structure, and had no idea of how to write a college level essay. Instead of doing his work for him, I sat down with him and taught him how to write so he could help himself in the future. After spending all of High School and college getting C's, he recieved his first A- on that paper.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
The biggest questions would be about identifying what they need help with, because the most imporant thing is realizing what needs work and being brave enough to come forward about it.
