About David
I have 6+ years of experience in teaching english and math in a tutoring setting. I've also earned a degree in speech language pathology within the last few years, which has given me experience in treating and modeling different element of language, not to mention experience in studying for and taking the GRE and other standardized tests. Additionally, I even presented a poster at a national conference about the grammatical concept of noun phrases (riveting, I know!).
I enjoy sharing new knowledge and concepts with students, and seeing them connect their previous experience and usage of a skill with a new greater understanding. I've found that when it comes to language, many people do not know why certain behaviors are "right" or "wrong." Helping students know why some of their speaking or writing behaviors are correct and effective can provide not only success on a test or 2, but can also create a lasting boost of confidence and success with language.
I have a bachelor's degree in education and a masters degree in speech language pathology. These backgrounds allow me to blend instructing using notes and explanations with modeling and developing proper usage of language through practice.

Upon working with a new student, I discuss the student's intentions and expectations for our work together. I want to assess the student's confidence levels for different topics, so that we can improve some areas while also emphasizing student strengths. In addition to students' stated topics of interest, we use informal and formal assessments to quickly screen for additional points of emphasis if necessary.
