About Lexie

I have published four books, the next is a middle-grade novel that will come out with Penguin Random House in 2020, the last was nominated for Lambda Literary Award. I have written for and been interviewed in a range of mainstream publications, such as Teen Vogue, Ms. Magazine, etc., and have supported others in getting their work published.

Additionally, I train in Risk Taking, Public Speaking, and Performance with THE STUDIO and one-on-one with a coach. With this, I have spoken on difficult subjects at universities around the country and within community centers and conferences around the world.

I have a long and meaningful history working with and mentoring kids of all ages in different contexts. As a roller skating instructor for beginners (I have 10 national and regional awards in this), as an elementary reading tutor, arts teacher, and dance class TA in Ohio, ESL at an asylum in Texas, online ESL converation with university candidates in Poland and Switzerland, as a touring creative writing workshop facilitator, in the daycares of politial asylums in Detroit and Belgium, as a babysitter and homework helper in NYC, etc.

There is value to everyone's stories and imaginations and I want to support people of all ages to find theirs through exercises, writing or speaking prompts, and honoring complex human experiences.

I simply like spending time with people who are invested in their own growth and creativity.

My first teaching experiences was as a teenager. I was a nationally ranked competitive rollerskater, and co-facilitated beginner skate lessons at the local roller rink. I enjoyed watching the kids learn to trust themselves and talking them through what happens when you fall.

I have been a working public speaker and facilitator since 2013; since 2012 I have published four books with major publishers, small publishers, and self-publishing.

I have also trained in these subjects at Oberlin College, The New School, THE STUDIO, and with one-on-one training.

About the lesson

At any age, ask questions to gage their comfort and experience with storytelling and sources of anxiety. Unless that person has a specific project they are seeking help on, we would being with prompts that I have toured with in the USA, Canada, UK, and Hungary over the years.

People as young as 4 as an arts teacher in Ohio, and as old as 80 at a community center in Oxford, England. I have worked with kids with language barriers in asylums, domestic violence survivors in rehab centers. I'm open and excited to work with people at any age who have something to say or create, whether they know it or not.

What my former dance teacher at Oberlin College told our class, "Replace ambition with curiousity."

We find fits where we least expect them; we find growth where there is often resistance.

I recently went to University of Wisconsin-River Falls to speak on a panel on gender. On the way back to New York City, our flight got delayed and we had time to go to the Mall of America for the first time. I got to do things I always wanted to do in my childhood, but never had the chance, like go to Build-a-Bear for the first time and the Rainforest Cafe.
