About Marisa

I have been teaching ESL, Essay Writing and Test Prep for several years at some of the most reputable universities in NY. Currently, I am working at Pace University, I have also worked at the New School and NYU.

I have a master's in TESOL for College & Adults/Linguistics from NYU.

I have a great passion for teaching. I have been able to bridge gaps of understanding among students of different ethnicities, social and economic status. I always feel a sense of accomplishment when students reciprocate and provide their own feedback on lessons. This helps me to find ways to improve my methodology for the next group of students.

I started to teach at proprietary language schools, i.e. EC English, Rennert Biligual, Lyceum Kennedy prior to getting a formal education in TESOL. I enjoyed my experiences so much that I decided to make my ultimate career goal.

I have a master's in TESOL/Linguistics from New York University and I also have several certifications from TESOL.org and NILE for teaching flipped lessons and blended learning as well as solely online teaching.

About the lesson

First, I would evaluate the student to see his/her strengths and weaknesses holistically. After I have identified problem areas, I would develop a study/lesson plan for the student. I also give a progress report every month to keep track of student performance.

I have worked with students from all around the world. The majority, however, have been from Asia, i.e. China, South Korea, Taiwan, India, etc...I have worked with this population in the university sector.

If students want to excel in a professional or academic setting, I would be an instructor, professor, educator that could realize their objectives.

The most satisfying experience I have had as an educator is when students have an "aha" moment. The insight they acquire and immediate reciprocity is incomparable to any other aspect of teaching. I know I have struck a cord of understanding that is universal and get bridge gaps.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should have an idea of some of their weaknesses or trouble spots. Some questions students might think through are "will I reach my objective with this instructor?", "how do I want the lessons to be taught-student-centered?", "What type of learner am I?", "will the instructor be a good fit?"
