About Rachel

My passion is to help others learn.

I've taught English at the college level for nine years.

I received my BA in English, MA in Nonfiction/Pedagogy, and MFA in Creative Nonfiction.

I've worked as a freelance writer/tutor/editor and writing coach.

In addition, I taught at the AuthorQuest Children's Writing Camp for five years; the North of 45 Writer's Retreat three times, and for the past three years at the Isla Mujeres Ethnographic School.

My diverse range of experience, and joy in the subject make me an excellent tutor for any age and experience range.

Teaching is my legacy. I am the daughter, granddaughter, niece, cousin, and friend to many teachers.

It's my passion to help others learn.

I taught College Composition at Northern Michigan University, where I received my degrees, for nine years. During that time I worked in dozens of workshops, honing my editing skills.

I was head of the campus Writing Center.

I've taught at multiple writing camps and retreats.

I've spent the last three years working as a freelance editor, writer, and writing coach.

I'm currently, and have been for the past three years, the writing instructor at the Isla Mujeres Ethnographic School.

About the lesson

First we will have a discussion about what the student's needs are. What are their expectations? What do they hope to achieve? What do they struggle with? What are your strengths?

From there we'll set up a tentative plan of approach, and begin working together.

A wide range: College students ranging from English as a second language, to non traditional, to "right to try."

Young readers ages 9-16 in the AuthorQuest Children's Writing Camp.

Adults in a diverse range of workshops.

I've been editing a book written by the mother of an ISS astronaut. The experience has been truly wonderful, and I had the privilege of "meeting" both the astronaut and her mother via Zoom recently. Discussing the writing process with them was fascinating. And getting to meet them both an honor.

It made me so thankful for my work.
