About Deborah

Hi! My name is Deborah and I have a passion for the English language and for helping others succeed! I love conversation, literature, and even grammar! An American, I've tutored all different ages, both in America and in China. I use interesting materials and am patient yet challenging. I love my students and build their confidence. Give me a chance to earn your confidence, and I will work hard to make sure you will not regret it! I have:

I've been teaching ever since I can remember, formally beginning with tutoring native Americans while I was in college.

About the lesson

In our initial meeting I will do a needs assessment. I will find out your goals, and your strengths and weaknesses. We decide what to study in the next class, and give you a homework assignment. My sessions are personalized, and tailored to the students needs and style of learning. In ESL classes, the student does most of the talking as soon as he is able.

I've worked with all ages, preschool (my youngest was a 2year-old Chinese girl whose grandmother paid me to play with her granddaughter in English) to elementary, middle, and high school, to college students, some of whom were career professionals. I've taught in public and private school settings, as well as home tutoring, and homeschooling my own kids and their friends.

You should always do a trial class before committing. I would look more closely at what the teacher has accomplished with other students, than at the teacher's education and credentials. And love. Things go better if the teacher loves teaching and loves her students.

Our family of 23, including kids, their spouses, and grandkids, gathered for our youngest daughter's wedding in Key West, FL. We rented a big house on the water for several days, and enjoyed swimming, boating, fishing, and shopping with each other.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Exactly why do you want to take lessons? What are your short-term and long-term goals? What are your expectations? Get the teacher's feedback as to whether your expectations are doable in the length of time you have in mind. Also, how do you think you learn best? Are you a visual learner who remembers better if you see it, or do you remember best by hearing? Think through your successes in the past. What elements did those times have in common?
